Client Requirement

A global logistics company, specializing in freight forwarding, faced supply chain disruptions on a number of key packaging supplies due to a heavy reliance on a single supplier in China, and increasing pressure from stakeholders to adopt more eco-friendly products and reduce their carbon footprint.

Resource’s Solution

Resource Global distilled the purchasing and usage data to find out which products were more heavily responsible for the disruption, and furthermore, which had the highest carbon footprint and would therefore need re-developing.

We then went to market on behalf of our Client, to find manufacturers who could immediately address these products. After 4 weeks of intense research and market analysis, two companies emerged. They were established manufacturers with different areas of expertise, one based in East Europe and the other in India.

They successfully passed their audits, and we introduced them to our Client and arranged for product samples. The supply of most items was simply re-routed to these manufacturers. Products that were high contributors to the Client’s carbon emissions were redeveloped together with these companies into eco-friendly alternatives.

Result

The end result was three-fold:

1. Our Client now has a de-risked and optimized supplier mix, made up of manufacturers with different areas of expertise, who have been audited to meet our Client’s bespoke requirements.
2. 68% of the packaging supplies are now purchased from the new manufacturers, without modifications;
3. 32% have been redeveloped into more eco-friendly, recyclable alternatives. This is a significant contribution towards our Client’s carbon footprint reduction goals.
